The January 2013 figures are in from the U.S. Mint, and show an all-time monthly sales record for American Silver Eagle bullion coins, just shy of seven and a half million coins at 7,498,000. This is despite there being NO Silver Eagles for sale for 16 days in January. They didn’t go on sale until January 7, and sold out on January 17 – only available wholesale for ten days. Supplies did not resume to distributors until January 28.
January also saw the American Gold Eagles sell at a rate not seen in two and half years. The 150,000 ounces sold last month was the best record since July of 2010. Total American Eagle sales in January for silver and gold combined totaled nearly half a billion dollars.
