Collecting the Standing Liberty Quarter, pt 1

July 23rd, 2013 by

CoinWeek has part 1 of a series on collecting the Standing Liberty quarter, starting with an overview of the series. Minted from 1916 to 1930, the Standing Liberty quarter was designed by Hermon Atkins MacNeil, who also designed Justice, the Guardian of Liberty on the east pediment of the United States Supreme Court Building.

Part 1 of the series covers the first two years of the Standing Liberty, including some of the problems the mints had with getting a nice, full strike on every coin while they were turning them out like sausages. This is an enjoyable read for me, after sorting through the 90% silver we carry, and occasionally finding worn Standing Liberty quarters.
