New Design For American Silver Eagle Proposed

April 9th, 2014 by reports that today, the Citizen Coinage Advisory Committee (CCAC) has recommended to the U.S. Mint that the reverse design of the American Silver Eagle bullion coin be changed.

Examining many designs that were proposed, but not used, for different recent commemorative coins, the CCAC voted by a large margin to recommend the design first proposed for the US Marshals Service gold $5 coin as the basis for the new Silver Eagle reverse.

The next step is to modify the design to include the proper denomination and inscriptions from the present Mercanti-designed Silver Eagle reverse, and produce several variations to the design.
